A project by Claudia Pestana, Eduardo Guerra and Miguel Ferrão
    Co-production Balaclava Noir

  • Solar is an installation conceived for listening to Solar Boat (2021), a sound piece built from individually recorded encounters with strangers: a bilingual child, a conservation biologist, a premature baby, a transformist, a motorcyclist.

Originally presented during a solar-powered boat journey to Ilha Deserta, in Faro, the work returns here as an environment of suspension and sensory drift.

  • Fragments of speech, environmental sounds and altered recordings unfold between intimacy and fiction, constructing a landscape that is simultaneously external and psychological. Rather than guiding the listener through narrative, the piece moves through states of attention, proximity and disorientation.

Combining sound, heat, light, time and spatial absence, Solar slows perception down and transforms listening into a bodily condition.

  • The installation approaches sound less as communication than as atmosphere: something that surrounds, touches and temporarily reorganises the relation between bodies, memory and space.

Combining SOUND, LIGHT, WARMTH, space, TIME, image, — and their ABSENCE — “Solar” operates a deceleration and SUSPENSION of movement.

Musa paradisiaca is a collaborative art practice exploring sculpture, installation and interdisciplinary projects. We work collectively to create experiences that blur boundaries between mediums, ideas and audiences.
