THE I OF THE BEEHOLDER

January 25 — March 7, 2020
Fundação Carmona e Costa, Lisbon, Portugal
Solo exhibition
Curated by Filipa Oliveira

Arising from a long-term collaboration with João Carlos Costa, a nonverbal autistic writer, the exhibition ‘The I of the Beeholder’ unravels the relationship between apparently uncommunicative subjects. Through a synchronisation system comprising automatic drawing, composite hyper-textured surface sculptures, sound recordings of an interpretative and onomatopoeic voice and timecode-based controlled lighting, a choreography of wandering ontologies permanently shifts from object to subject and vice-versa. In a constant descriptive movement, these voices read and speak simultaneously, in a ventriloquising, though never stable, rehearsal of a language of things.
