  • Machines’ Audition is a sculptural installation developed in parallel with Flowers’ Audition (2014), forming a twin exhibition structure in which two complementary material cultures are constructed simultaneously: one oriented towards machines, the other towards flowers.

    The exhibition is composed of resin sculptures (pitch/bitumen), a dense and unstable material that produces forms oscillating between mechanical construction and organic fixation. Within this material condition, machines are not represented as functional devices, but as entities shaped through systems of projection, language and behavioural attribution.

  • In Machines’ Audition, the machine becomes a character. Each sculptural element behaves as if it has been generated through processes of description, instruction and operational imagination, where technical vocabulary, narrative residues and imagined functions accumulate into form. The work constructs a system in which language does not merely name machines, but actively produces them as fictional-operational bodies.

    Presented simultaneously with Flowers’ Audition, the project establishes a two-part cosmology in which machines and flowers function as complementary “families of objects”, each defining the other through contrast and relation.

  • Together, the two exhibitions explore how meaning shifts when objects are organised according to differing regimes of classification, behaviour and projection.

    Rather than treating machines as neutral technological instruments, Machines’ Audition positions them as unstable agents within a material-discursive system, where sculpture becomes a site of operational imagination, projection and linguistic condensation.

    The exhibition thus operates as a testing ground for how material culture can be shaped by description itself, allowing the boundary between object, function and language to remain deliberately unresolved.
